Hydrotherapy
Hydrotherapy is a specialist form of therapy that takes place in a warm, purpose-built pool, designed to support children with a wide range of additional needs. The warmth of the water helps to relax muscles, reduce stiffness, and ease discomfort, creating a calm and supportive environment where pupils can move more freely and confidently.
At our school, hydrotherapy sessions are carefully planned to meet each child’s individual needs. Activities may focus on improving mobility, coordination, balance, and strength, while also supporting sensory regulation and overall wellbeing. For some pupils, it provides a rare opportunity to experience movement in a way that feels easier and more accessible than on land.
Just as importantly, hydrotherapy sessions are enjoyable and engaging. Through play-based activities and guided exercises, pupils can build confidence, develop independence, and experience a sense of achievement in a safe and nurturing space.
Hydrotherapy is not only beneficial physically, but also emotionally, helping children to relax, regulate, and feel more comfortable in their bodies.
